News About Lexmark Printer's Firmware Update

There is a firmware update that pops out at the users' screens and says that it will improve the print quality, but the improved quality printing can only be observed, when there are first hand, original Lexmark printer ink cartridges installed with your printer. If there are recycled or refilled cartridges, your printer won't recognize it.

If you use recycled printer ink cartridges for your Lexmark printer, this article is for you. There are some software upgrades that are sent by the Lexmark Inc – if accepted and installed, these updates can bar you from using the recycled cartridges.

Linda Stephan, a freelance script writer by profession, lives in New York.  She takes out large number of prints from her Lexmark printer everyday to show her work samples to her clients. She exclaims, ‘Though, It is quite pricey but what else I could do!'

For getting freelance work, it is important to maintain a standard not only in her work but also in the presentation of her work. ‘I use a Lexmark X series printer that is known for its distinctive print quality.' In the initial phases, she adds further, ‘I used to work with original Lexmark printer cartridges, as I wasn't aware that there is something called recycled cartridges.'

She shared her words and told us that once while visiting to the local market she saw sticker ‘Recycled Cartridges Available' pasted on the outer glass of a shop, she stepped into the store, and queried about it, and after getting convinced, she purchased a fresh set of Lexmark printer ink cartridges. Ms Stephan was really impressed with the low price and the promised superior print quality of recycled cartridges. Linda kept on using the recycled cartridges for more than a year until the Lexmark sent an update notification to her.

She explains, ‘I got a popup message, which said that some important and necessary printer software updates are available and click yes to install. I clicked yes, and the update started downloading, and finally it got installed.' As soon as the upgrade was installed, her printer stopped identifying the recycled cartridges. After the update, says Linda, ‘when I was about to take a print, my Lexmark printer gave me a message that said Unrecognized Cartridge. I showed up to the shop from where I purchased the cartridges, they too sweated a lot, but nothing could be done. I ended up using Original Lexmark Printer Ink Cartridges, again.'

It isn't just the story of Linda; it has happened to thousands of people worldwide. The Lexmark Inc. has started sending typical firmware update messages to users' computer system, and asks them to update and install, which after the upgrading is completed, restricts them to use recycled cartridges. This firmware update also holds down the usage of compatible and refilledcartridges.

Most users, on various web forums, are using words for the brand, and saying that they aren't customer friendly anymore. Most of them even claimed they have sold their printers, and moved to some other brand, and most of the others were thinking of moving to some other printing solution.

While the Lexmark Inc. claims that it is a process which we want to improve our performance. But the ball doesn't seem to be in the court of Lexmark, this time; they, seriously, are in trouble!
