OEM or Third Party Printer Cartridge- Which one is worth Purchasing

When your printer runs out of ink and you are all set to buy replacement Printer Cartridges, then you would most likely to seek for the best quality cartridge at the reasonable price possible. This is when you are left with two choices- the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) ones or the alternative ones.

You might be surprised to know that a lot of printer companies do not earn maximum profit from selling printers. Indeed, their maximum income comes from the business of selling consumables such as ink and other peripherals that are essential for the smooth functioning of your printer.  For this reason you won’t find any common set-up available in the market, so when it comes for replacement, you have no other option than buying from the company your printer is manufactured from. This is nothing but to bind you with them for a long-term relationship and over the lifetime of a printer. Consequently, you would end up spending much more on the consumables than you ever did on the purchase of the device.

On the other hand, third party companies that manufacture printer cartridges can provide you an alternative source of products at much affordable price. These companies invest large amount of time and money in researching how the major printer manufacturers work. With the acquired knowledge the third party manufacturers produce consumables at much reduced price without compromising the quality. Their main objective is to compete on price, and that many of them are typically cheaper than branded products.

However, some people may question on the quality and reliability of the replica products. They consider the fact that whether the risk of purchasing a third party printer cartridge is worth the saving they make instead of buying an OEM Cartridges. With the aim to compete with the third party manufacturers and keeping their profit margins high for themselves, the manufacturers have generated more complex products over the recent years.

Manufacturers are utilizing certain devices to prevent the use of replica products with their printer model. For example, many cartridges now come with smart chips. Anything wrong with the chip will stop the printer from working.  Some manufacturer even claim that if third party ink is used then it may not flow correctly through the printer, resulting in clogging and poor quality printing.

Don’t be panic, though. There are also some printers that will go easy with third party consumables and using them will save your hard earned money without comprising on the quality and output.
